9/24/07 day 4

The day we have been waiting for,,Today we ride the Tail of the Dragon,,,WOW,,,every rider should take this trip...We stop at Tellico lake at the foot of the Dragon for a photo op,,then on to Deals Gap. It was a Monday morning, we only saw one sheriffs cruiser. I mention this because I was told it is a heavily patrolled roadway. I guess the fact that it was a Monday morning was the reason for only one cruiser.

At Deals Gap we stop for lunch and souvenirs. We enjoy visiting with other riders, and hearing about their travels and sharing ours. We also see the Tree of Shame,,so glad we did not have any parts to leave on it. For those of you who don't know,,The tree of shame is a place you hang parts on if you wreck on the Dragon.

From Deals gap we take route 28 (Hellbender 28) another great road. Unlike The Dragon, route 28 has more sweepers than twisties. We stop at Pitsop 28, a little souvenir and fuel stop. About a mile or so down the road there is a pull off on the left side of the road. A great photo op,,lake Fontana in the background. You can park right on the edge of the mountain,,this stop I visit in later trips.

From here we head East, over to Maggie Valley NC. Home to Wheels through time Motorcycle Museum.
